Links & Resources for Owners and Llama-Wannabe'sSoutheast Llama Rescue is a non-profit organization located near Asheville in western NC. Their mission is to protect the quality of life and improve the well being of abused, neglected, unwanted and behaviorally unmanageable llamas through prevention, education, intervention, placement and lifelong care. They can also provide advice and mentoring for new llama owners. Angels Way is actively involved in providing foster care for rescued llamas. (The foster llamas we care for are not shown on our website.) Southern States Llama Association is a membership-based organization for llama and alpaca owners. They provide educational resources, organize llama shows and events, and publish the Llama Journal and Discover Llamas. Jana Johnson (owner of Angels Way Llamas) is currently the North Carolina state representative for SSLA. Llamas-information.com offers Juniper Ridge books and videos, information on llamas, stories including the full text online of their two books, and in-depth links to other llama and alpaca sites. The Joy of Handspinning is a one-stop resource for anyone who does hand spinning or is interested in learning. The website includes video demonstrations and information on spinning wheels, spindles, and fibers of all kinds. LlamaOrg (sponsored by the Llama Lifestyle Marketing Association) is a repository of information primarily geared for families and first-time llama owners. The Alpaca and Llama Show Association website lists shows and events across the country. Membership is available at both adult and youth levels, and is open to all. They publish a quarterly magazine, "Show Ring." The ALSA offers classes and youth programs in training and showing llamas and alpacas. Jana Johnson (owner of Angels Way Llamas) is a member of the ALSA. The Llama Directory offers information resources for those interested in owning llamas or using their fibers for spinning and textiles. This site also aims to connect buyers and sellers of llamas, alpacas, their fibers, and related goods and services. The International Llama Registry is a non-profit organization with the purpose of maintaining an official genealogical registry system and research services for owners of llamas, guanacos, and vicunas. Their booklet, "I Want A Llama", is available as a free download from their site. This booklet covers the basic and essential information for new and prospective llama owners. The ILA registry database is online, but you must be a member to access it. Jana Johnson (owner of Angels Way Llamas) is a member of the ILR. Argentine Llama Aficionados: (ALA) is a group of Argentine llama owners and llama fans. Their site contains a listing of Argentine llamas available at farms across the country, and contact information for anyone interested in finding out more about Argentines or llamas in general. The Llama Crossing is a web community-oriented site providing information, articles, forums and news about llamas, related animals, international events and organizations, rescue, training, youth activities, even plans for building a llama chute. The Llamapaedia is a source of factual information about Llamas and caring for them, particularly their heath care. Founded and written by veterinarians.
